What is Driveway?

Driveway is a free online file sharing service. Users can easily upload and share files and folders of huge sizes that cannot be easily sent by ordinary email services. Any system that has an Internet connection and a browser can be used for this purpose.


Should I register myself to be a user of Driveway?

While you can use Driveway even without registration, signing up for a free account offers several advantages.

It is a consolidated place of all your shares. Additionally, you can upload, manage and create widgets for files and folders and search for files/folders within your account. The address book allows you to store frequently used contacts for purpose of sharing data, while the download tracker details the download activity from the account.
How long do files stay on Driveway servers?

Download links exist for 90 days from the time of last access. In other words, files that are not accessed for 90 days are deleted, making the corresponding links invalid.

However, links do not expire for recipients if they have been sent from a Driveway account but become invalid if the account holder deletes the file.
Is any user information captured during the upload and download process?

Driveway system captures only the IP address and time-stamp of the activity.
Are there any upload restrictions?

There are no restrictions on the number of files that you can upload. However, the size of an individual file cannot exceed 500 MB.

A registered user can upload up to 2 GB of data to the Driveway account.
Are there any restrictions on the types of files that can be uploaded to Driveway?

Any type of file can be uploaded on Driveway. However, files violating our terms of service, copyrights, obscene or abusive content are forbidden and will be removed. Do notify Driveway Support Team using the ‘Report Abuse’ option if you notice such files uploaded to our site.

What is Driveway’s business model?

Driveway’s business model is going to be based on a mix of premium paid services and advertisements that are not intrusive to the extent of spoiling the clean file sharing experience.
How do I upload a file to the Driveway Service?

You (file owner) can upload multiple files, each upto 500 MB. Click the 'Send Files' button to share your data.

The recipient can download and read the file. A descriptive note on the files can be added in the 'Tags' column.
You can cancel a file upload using the 'remove' link.
How do I share files using the Driveway service?

To share files, you (file owner) need to enter the email id of the associate(s). The recipient(s) will receive an email containing the file links to the shared files.
Can I view my files online?

Yes, you can view your Office file(s) online before downloading them. For this, click the 'Preview' icon.
Your associate, with whom you have shared the file can also view the file(s) online by clicking the 'Preview' button.

How do I download a file?

Once the files are uploaded, the links to the files are sent in the confirmation mail, if you had entered your email id. The shared files recipient can view, share or save the file.
How do I delete files that I have uploaded to the Driveway service?

Just enter your email id when you upload the files. You will receive the ‘Download’ and ‘Delete’ links for the files by the confirmation email. Click the ‘Delete’ link of the particular file and it will be deleted from the Driveway System immediately.
What is the Driveway Web Widget?

The Driveway Web Widget is a graphical representation of data. It allows you to view, download and play files - audio, video, pictures and Office. This widget can be embedded in any blog or website.To know more click here
How do I create a Driveway Web Widget?

Use the ‘Browse’ option to upload one or more files and click the ‘Send Files’ button.

A confirmation page appears, with the file details and download (share) links. Alongside, you would see a 'Create Widget' button. On clicking this, your uploaded files will appear as a 'Widget Preview'.

How do I embed the Widget to a blog or website?

The widget code that appears beside the widget can be used to embed it in any blogs or website.

How do I View/Play/Download files using Driveway Web Widget?

To view or play a file within a widget, simply click it.

Audio and Video Files: Flash, .flv, .MP3 files play directly. Other formats need to be downloaded in order to play them.

Picture files: You can view them as slide show or browse individual files, besides downloading them.

Office Files: They can be downloaded to your computer.
Are there any specific requirements for the Driveway Web Widget?

If you have a flash plug-in less than version 8 in the browser, then the Driveway Web Widget may not appear properly.

What are the advantages of having an account with Driveway?

Using the free Driveway account, you can upload upto 2 GB of data and share files at any point of time and also manage files/folders in your account. Additionally, you can perform operations like creating/deleting/renaming/organizing files/folders and so on. Further, you can cut/copy and paste files to folders.

Also, it is possible to search for files within the account and share them as widgets. The address book allows you to store frequently used contacts for purpose of sharing files, while the download tracker details the download activity from the account.

You can avail an additional 10 GB of free space by referring the service to your associates.

How do I upload files to my Driveway account?

Login to your Driveway account. Click the 'Upload Files' icon to upload a file. It is possible to upload multiple files, each of size 500 MB, to your Driveway account at any point of time.
How do I manage files in my Driveway account?

Login to your Driveway account. From here you can 'Rename Files & Folders' or 'Delete Files & Folders'. Using the 'Create Folder' feature you can manage files within folders.
How do I upload folders to my Driveway account?

Login to your Driveway account. Click 'Upload Folder' and browse or drag-n-drop folders from your local machine to upload them.
How do I host images from my Driveway account?

Login to your Driveway account. Click the ‘Host Image’ icon. Browse for the image(s) in your local machine and upload it to the Driveway account. You can resize the image(s) during upload to embed the same to blogs/websites/forums.
How do I create widgets for uploaded files/folders?

Login to your Driveway account. Click the ‘Create Widget’ icon. This takes you to a page where you can share files as a widget.

Read-only option allows you to create a widget for files and folders uploaded to the Driveway account and share it. The recipient(s) can view, play and download the files from the widget.

Read-Write option allows the recipients to:

  1. Upload files to the shared widget
  2. Edit files using Zoho Editor.
These changes will reflect in the file owner's account.
How do I share a widget?

Copy and paste the code that appears alongside the widget and send it via email to your associates (to enable them embed it to website or blog). Alternately, you can send the url, to share the widget.
Can I view and sort files in different ways within the Driveway web widget?

Yes. By default, your files/folders are displayed as icons within the Driveway web widget. Clicking the 'List View' option under 'Menu' lists the files along with the size and date on which they were uploaded. Also, you can sort files/folders by Name, Date or Size.

Can my associate (with whom I have shared the Driveway web widget) upload files to it?

Yes. The recipient of the read-write widget share link can upload files to a folder of the account holder. For this, double-click the folder to which you wish to upload the files. Click the ‘Upload Files’ icon that appears on the top of the widget to begin the process.

Is it possible for an associate to edit my widget?

Yes, if you have created a read-write widget, your associate can edit (delete, rename and create folder) the widget, using the Edit option under Menu. For this, the associate needs to login to your account with your email id and password.
Can my associate(s) login to their Driveway account from my widget?

Yes. Your associate(s) can directly login to their Driveway account from the Login option under Menu. This option is available with Read Only and Read-Write widgets.
What is the Address Book?

It allows you to import contacts from all major email services and manually add contacts, for sharing files/folders/widgets.
Is it possible to share multiple files and folders from the Driveway account?

Yes. Check the files/folders that you wish to share and click 'Share Files & Folders' and enter the name of the recipients from the address book or add manually.
Is it possible to edit and save files directly to the Driveway account?

Yes. Click the file icon with the extensions .doc and .xls to edit and save files to your Driveway account, using Zoho Editor. You can also save the changes.
What does the Save Link feature do?

It allows you save a file link to your Driveway account, sent to you by an associate via email. The saved link appears in the 'My Saved Links' folder within your account. Deleting the saved links will not delete the file shared by the associate. Further, you can also share these links with other associates.
What is the Search feature?

It helps you locate a file/folder within your account by entering a search criterion. Just enter a keyword like the file name or even file tag to find the data. Entering tags while uploading the file helps you locate the file within your account using the 'Search' feature.
What is the Download Tracker?

It keeps a track of all the download activity from the account by indicating the number of times a file was downloaded, to which IP address along with date and time.
How do I change my Driveway account password?

Login to your account and click ‘Edit Profile’. Enter the new password and click ‘Update My Profile’.
